How to Redo Your Acrylic Painting

There are several ways you can redo an acrylic painting, depending on what you want to change and how much of the original you want to keep. Here are a few options:

1. Painting Over the Existing Image:

  • If you want to completely change the image: You can paint over the existing one with a new design. First, lightly sand the surface to help the new paint adhere better. Then, apply a layer or two of gesso to prime the canvas. Once the gesso is dry, you can begin your new painting.
  • If you want to make minor changes: You can simply paint over specific areas with new colors or details. This works best if the original colors are not too dark or vibrant, as they may bleed through the new paint.

2. Removing Paint:

  • For a more thorough redo: You can try to remove some or all of the paint. This is more challenging with acrylics than with oils, as they dry quickly and form a tough film. However, you can try using solvents like isopropyl alcohol or specialized acrylic paint removers. Be careful not to damage the canvas underneath.
  • If you only want to remove certain areas: You can use a cotton swab or brush dipped in solvent to carefully target specific areas.

3. Altering the Existing Image:

  • If you want to keep some elements of the original: You can try to incorporate them into a new design. For example, you could add new elements that complement the existing ones, or you could change the colors and textures to create a different mood.

Additional Tips:

  • Consider the canvas: If you’re using a pre-stretched canvas, it may be easier to simply paint over the existing image. If you’re using a loose canvas, you may be able to remove it from the frame and try to remove more of the paint.
  • Test your materials: Before you start, test any solvents or paint removers on a small, inconspicuous area of the painting to make sure they don’t damage the canvas or underlying paint layers.
  • Work in a well-ventilated area: Some solvents can be harmful if inhaled, so it’s important to work in a well-ventilated area and wear gloves to protect your skin.
  • Be patient: Redoing a painting can be a time-consuming process, so be patient and don’t get discouraged if it doesn’t go perfectly at first.

No matter which method you choose, remember that it’s all part of the creative process. Don’t be afraid to experiment and try new things. And most importantly, have fun!

Home-Based Painting Group Fosters Creativity and Community

In a world that is becoming increasingly digital, it is easy to feel disconnected from others. However, there are still many ways to connect with people in person and build meaningful relationships. One way to do this is by joining a group that shares your interests.

If you are a painter, you may be interested in joining a home-based painting group. These groups are a great way to meet other artists, share your work, and learn new techniques. They can also be a great source of support and encouragement.

One such group is hosted by a local artist in their home every Tuesday. The group is free to join, and all skill levels are welcome. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned pro, you will find a welcoming and supportive environment in this group.

The group meets in my art studio in my home in Boylston, MA. There are easels set up for each participant, and the walls are covered with paintings in various stages of completion. The atmosphere is relaxed and informal, and everyone is encouraged to chat and share ideas.

The group does not have a formal instructor, but everyone is happy to share their knowledge and experience. If you are struggling with a particular technique, there is always someone there to offer advice. And if you are feeling uninspired, you can always find inspiration in the work of others.

The home-based painting group is a great way to connect with other artists and improve your skills. It is also a great way to socialize and make new friends. If you are looking for a creative and supportive community, this group is the perfect place for you.

Here are some of the benefits of joining a home-based painting group:

  • You will meet other artists and make new friends.
  • You will have the opportunity to share your work and get feedback.
  • You will learn new techniques and improve your skills.
  • You will be part of a supportive and encouraging community.
  • You will have a creative outlet and a way to relax and de-stress.

I hope this article has inspired you to join a home-based painting group. It is a great way to connect with other artists, improve your skills, and be part of a creative community. If you would like to contact me, I can be reached at Suzanne.Foxwell@gmail.com.

Orchard Grove Paint Party

Painting Parties can be a lot of fun for Steve and I to do – but what a GREAT time everyone had at Orchard Grove Assisted Living in Shrewsbury on March 8, 2020.   About 15 residents and invited guests participated and really let their creative juices flow!  Many of the residents had never picked up a paint brush before, but that didn’t stop them from trying!  The program began around 2:00 PM and for the next 2 ½ hours everyone immersed themselves in the creation of a beautiful spring scene with birch trees set against a pale blue sky.   Great job everyone and see you again soon!

First Annual Arts Festival at Plymouth, Ma Library

On Sunday August 11, 2019, the first annual juried Fine Arts Festival was held on the Plymouth Library lawn from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Please click here to see some of my original works of art displayed at the event.   What a great day it was with 50 exhibitors showing their original and handcrafted canvas art, sculpture, woodwork, glass creations, art fabric and more.  It was a great event and very well attended.  I brought many of my fine art paintings, hand painted resin fish in shells, and hand formed resin flowers.  We found the crowd to be very welcoming and embraced many of my new and unique art pieces.  I sold out of several items, so I guess it’s back to the studio for me as we have another show in September.

Painting Party for Cats Paws Fund Raiser

Once again, thanks to Lisa Lund for inviting me back to instruct her participants in painting a beautiful moon lit winter scene at her fundraiser for Paws Cat Shelter in Milford.  Everyone had a great time putting their masterpieces together as they sipped and painted through- out the evening.  They all came out beautifully and once their painting was complete, each one was lightly dusted with a touch of glitter for a little extra sparkle.  If you would like to see some footage of the class in action, please click on the following link.  https://youtu.be/JcnLhf7gHBc

The Painting Ladies

Taking a look at the picture, I guess you can tell everyone was totally engrossed in their paint pouring projects. The paint was really flying around, but by the end of the evening, everyone was able to take home several beautiful and unique masterpieces ready for hanging.

Due to popular demand, we will be putting on another class of paint pouring techniques after the holidays, so please let me know if you would like  further details as they get firmed up.

stART Event in Worcester, 9/16/18

Great turnout for the street art event in Worcester on Sunday, Sept 16th.  It was a hot sunny day – with many folks stopping by our booth to say hello.  We did a brisk business and almost sold out of a few items.   I think most of the 300 vendors were hot and exhausted at the conclusion of the event, but very satisfied with the results.

Meet the Author/Artist Event September 9

Thanks to everyone who came to my Meet the Author/Artist event yesterday at Tatnuck Book Store in Westborough.  It was wonderful to see some familiar faces again and your support was much appreciated.  Our next event is in Worcester on Sunday, September 16 and is called START on the Street.  This event will host over 300 artists with booths lining Park Street near Elm Park.  All items sold in START on the Street must be hand made by the artist.  I will be bringing a large variety of my art work which will include hand painted ceramic tiles, painted gold fish floating in sea shells, and over 50 of my original paintings.  Hope to see you there between 11:00 am – 6:00 PM!
